Conveyor Belt

Structure of Conveyor Belt

.

  1. Applications
General Purpose For general conveying or power transmission
Agriculture For agriculture applications such as silage transfer, farm equipment etc
Commercial/Retail For checkout counters or inventory transfer
Construction For construction material handling such as polywood, some heavy-duty for use on construction equipment
Elevator Elevator belts are typically in a vertical application with additional safety factors for bucket attachments and holes for meshing with drive and tracking components. They frequently have attachments such as buckets or trays designed for specific applications.
Food & Beverage Processing For use with food or beverage processing applications. Characteristics often include non-absorbent material and easy cleanability
Mining / Quarrying This is typically very heavy-duty belting for applications in mines and quarries; may include transport of mining materials
Inclined Conveying Designed for use in conveyance of material up an incline, or, less frequently, down an incline
Manufacturing/Fabrication For use in factory production lines.
Packaging typically, abrasion resistant for use with cardboard, package paper, etc
Power Transmission for use in power transmission applications – engine belts, belting for power takeoffs, industrial machinery such as lathes, etc.
Other / Custom Unlisted special application, or indicates custom belt suppliers or belt configurations designed and manufactured for specific customer requests and applications
  1. Primary Belt Material
Cotton / Canvas Any weave of cotton, cotton blends, or heavy-duty canvas
Neoprene A synthetic rubber that resists degradation from sun, ozone, and weather. It performs well in contact with oils and many chemicals. Neoprene remains useful over a wide temperature range, displays outstanding physical toughness, and resists burning inherently better than exclusively hydrocarbon rubbers. Neoprene also offers resistance to damage caused by flexing and twisting. Suggested operating temperature (-45° to 230° F)
Nitrile Good resistance to petroleum hydrocarbons and fuels. Widely used with most oils, hydraulic fluids, and alcohol. Many compound variations are available for specific applications. Suggested operating temperature (-30° to 275° F)
Polyurethane / Urethane Polyurethane is a diverse class of materials exhibiting good elongation, recovery and toughness properties. They are flexible and have good abrasion resistance
PVC PolyVinyl Chloride is a widely used material that has good flexibility, smooth surface, and nontoxic qualities. Some grades are used in food and chemical processes due to the inert nature of PVC
Rubber Natural compounds such as gum rubber (polyisoprene) and latex
Silicone heat, cold and weather resistance, electrical insulation, release, water repellency and defoaming
  1. Belt Dimensions
Belt Thickness No standard size. user would specify or give us “at least” and “no more than” values.
Belt Width No standard size. user would specify or give us “at least” and “no more than” values.
Belt Length No standard size. user would specify or give us “at least” and “no more than” values.
  1. Performance Specifications
Working Load Per Inch Width most of belts specify working load or running tension per inch of width. Many belts can be produced in any width, so this allows for proper width selection
Maximum Operating Speed Flat belts frequently carry a specification of maximum speed in feet per minute or other distance per unit time. This is the maximum speed for which the belt will maintain its strength and capacity specifications
Minimum Pulley Size Minimum pulley size is usually determined by the stiffness of the belt and its ability to go around a pulley without kinking or exceeding its deformation limit
Operating Temperature Required range of operating temperature
  1. Other Features
Food Grade Rated USDA or FDA approved for food handling
Perforated / Timing Features Includes perforations or tracking features to engage with pulley to prevent slippage
Cleats / Ribs / Chevrons Top cleats or ribs assist in inclined conveying and transport of granular material; frequently configured in a “vee” or chevron shape
V-Guides / V-Ropes One or more bottom V-guides for positive tracking; these guides or “ropes” are attached with techniques such as vulcanizing or welding
Sidewalls Sidewalls assist in tracking and/or conveying
Anti-Static Conductive to prevent buildup of static electricity
Modular Belt Belt is customizable and/or adjustable via interlocking sections or modules
Open-ended Comes in a roll and may be cut and spliced to desired length
